Dr David Williams PhD, FRCP

Dr David Williams is a Consultant Physician and Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Institute for Women’s Health, University College London Hospital. He trained in renal medicine and general internal medicine before specialising in obstetric medicine. He obtained a PhD for research into pre-eclampsia from University College London. In 1999, he moved to The Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and Imperial College as consultant in obstetric medicine before returning to UCLH in 2005.
He now runs the maternal medicine service at UCLH with a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, obstetricians and midwives. Specific clinical interests are hypertension, kidney disease, rheumatological and neurological disease, endocrine disorders and thrombosis in pregnancy.
His research team works on improving our understanding of pre-eclampsia and its management. Other research interests include the prediction of a woman’s future health from pregnancy outcome. Dr Williams has published widely on pre-eclampsia, kidney disease and other medical disorders in pregnancy. He is president of the UK Obstetric Medicine Society and guest editor of a theme issue of The British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology on women’s future health after pregnancy.
